Stephen Covey was an eminent educator, author, and keynote speaker. He was a multi-talented personality who wrote one of the bestselling self-help books of the twentieth century: The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. But in this quote, Covey is not taking into account the problems with human imagination.
Providing nuggets of wisdom on popular sayings
Don’t live out of your imagination. Instead, verify each belief that you have in your imagination against the existential reality. Human beings are endowed with the power of imagination which has been a big asset for the human race and it still continues to help them improve. However, the power of imagination is so strong that, if it goes wrong it can direct the human being to destroy his own physical body or that of another human being while no other species can do such a deed. So instead of living out of imagination, human beings should identify their purpose and direct the imagination to achieve it, and make existence meaningful.
